Essence releases nightly headliners for 2013 fest

Organizers say the festival opens Friday, July 5, with R&B powerhouses Jill Scott and Maxwell as well as rapper LL Cool J and Brandy headlining the nightly concerts at the Superdome. On Saturday, Charlie Wilson, New Edition, Trey Songz, Keyshia Cole and Solange will entertain fans on the mainstage.

Cowboy Mouth + DTA! = mighty roar

The New Orleans quartet has been barnstorming the nation for more than a decade, blasting enthusiastic crowds with their high-octane, hook-laden pop rock. But Friday at Parc International for the weekly Downtown Alive! concert, the band will get a unique introduction — by the Lafayette High Mighty Lion Marching Band.
