When the Drum is Beating screening

In its quest to add a splash of world culture into Acadiana’s own cultural stew, Casa Azul Gifts will be hosting a special free screening of the documentary When the Drum is Beating from director Whitney Dow tomorrow.

When the drum is beating

The film documents the veteran Haitian band Septentrional Orchestra, which blends a Cuban big band sound with Haitian voodoo beats, and details the band’s exploits throughout its 60-year history in Haiti. The film reveals a unique vision of Hati through the perspective of the band and delivers the immense passion and spirtual union the band feels toward its motherland.

After the screening, a Q & A will be held with the director. To see a trailer for When the Drum is Beating click here.
