"Louisiana Voice" at the Hilliard Museum on the UL campus
Smithsonian magazine has coordinated a nationwide event this Saturday that will allow Americans to obtain free museum passes, go to the museums, see art, enjoy art and live out their days slighted more enriched and fulfilled. “Museum Day Live” is the event, and here in Acadiana participating museums include the Paul & Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum on St. Mary Boulevard adjacent to the UL campus, the African American Museum on South Market Street in St. Martinville and Jeanerette’s Bicentennial Park & Museum on East Main Street.
The timing of Museum Day Live couldn’t be better: Five artists — Melissa Bonin, Linda Trappey Dautreuil, Troy Dugas, Amy Guidry, and Lisa Osborn — will participate in a panel discussion in conjunction with the current main exhibit at the museum, “Louisiana Voices: Six Artists Speak to Us,” which celebrates the bicentennial of Louisiana statehood. The panel discussion will be held from 2-4 p.m.

Frank’s Casing Crew, now doing business as Frank’s International, will make its final appearance on ABiz’s list of the Top 50 Privately Held Companies in Acadiana this year, and once again it will likely be at the top with more than $1 billion in annual revenues. The 75-year-old company specializing in tubular fabrication and installation services to the oil and gas industry plans to offer shares of its stock to the public for the first time.
The defeat, or rather highjacking of House Bill 420 in the final days of this year's Legislative Session, say Reps. Vincent Pierre and Terry Landry, is the result of the propaganda spread by one unidentified local media outlet and an unnamed former state Representative, but nothing to do with the original legislation's lack of checks, balances or details.
