|Artist spanning across the country, from California, Missouri, Texas and of course Louisiana are coming together to create art for the sake of “creating art.” Come prepared to see large pieces, created on the spot by painters, graffiti writers, printers, illustrators, and biker art school teachers. This is a free event, coming straight out of the pockets of the artists simply for the sake of taking it back to the roots.|

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana is hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner featuring Cat on a Hot Tin Streetcar by Nita Hardy and adapted by Allyson Pharr. Featured guests include Greg “Trendy” Adkins, Don Bacque’, Fred Mills, Zachary Barker and many more. All proceeds go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Murder Mystery Dinner runs from Friday, Aug. 9, to Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Cajundome Convention Center, located at 444 Cajundome Blvd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a silent auction and a cash bar followed by the performance and dinner starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 or $700 for a table of eight. Acting Unlimited presents The Guardians of Sanzom, a play for young audiences by local playwright Cody Daigle. The Guardians of Sanzom tells the story of Skyler, a young girl mourning the loss of her mother with the help and support of her four best friends. But when Skyler encounters two citizens of an imaginary world called Imaginata, she learns that nothing is what it seems. Performances will run from Friday, Aug. 9, to Sunday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m., with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Theatre 810, located at 810 Jefferson St. in Downtown Lafayette.

Local artists haul out their best for this weekend’s ArtWalk taking place throughout Downtown Lafayette on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 6-9 p.m. This weekend also features ArtWalk and The Times of Acadiana presenting the Bandstand at Parc de Lafayette featuring The Pits and a Downtown Food Tuck Rally to support FoodNet at the IBERIABANK tower. Acadian Culture Day will focus on family folklore and numerous activities planned for the day, which include cooking demonstrations, boat tours and canoeing, artist demonstrations, games and crafts for children, table française, a genealogy station, dance lessons, sharing circles, film screenings, music by Recolte Band and Al Berard Family Band, and a ceremony for the Acadian Cultural Preservation Award.
