The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at the Horse Farm is getting in the carnival spirit with its inaugural Mardi Gras at the Market on Saturday.

Area farmers and artisans will be on hand selling everything from fresh vegetables and preserves to home-baked breads, soaps, jellies and crafts. Area food trucks will also be parked at the Horse Farm. Live music begins at 9 a.m. with a performance by Sassafras Jubilee followed at 10:30 by Corey Ledet & His Zydeco Band.

The event is free and open to the public and allows everyone to stroll the 100 acres of the Horse Farm ahead of its transformation into a city park.

Corey Ledet, left, and Sassafras Jubilee will perform for Mardi Gras at the Market.
