red white boomThe Acadiana Symphony Orchestra has chosen not to renew its popular Red White & Boom 4th of July celebration, essentially ending downtown Lafayette’s biggest Independence Day event.

Red White & Boom is responsible for filling Parcs International and Sans Souci with thousands of sparkler-twirling patriots, award-winning local musicians and of course a dazzling fireworks display to honor America’s birthday.

“The Acadiana Symphony is extremely proud of the RWB program that we have offered to the public over the past number of years,” says ASO Executive Director Jenny Krueger in an email response. “However we, like all organizations, need to evaluate from time to time how best to deploy our resources and energy towards those efforts that will allow us to make the greatest and most valuable impact to the community. Therefore and regrettably, ASO will not be putting on the RWB this year.”

According to Krueger, the ASO is shifting focus on improving upon its core initiatives, which include promoting its 2014-2015 concert season that employs dozens of local artists and musicians; expanding its Do-Re-ME! Program that provides an arts-integrated approach to teaching academics to Acadiana preschoolers; and the ASO’s in-house publication Overture magazine.
