SteampunkINNOV8 Lafayette closes out its week long festival of innovation with the Steampunk and Makers Ball, an extension of this fall’s Steampunk and Makers Fair, celebrating all the innovators and makers from across Louisiana and beyond.

 

The ball features a host of entertainment including the Kittencaboodle Caberet Show, Boom! Boom! Burlesque and live music from New Orleans steampunk band The Confabulation of Gentry, who will be utilizing the event to release their latest album.

 

The evening will also include steampunk dancing, eccentric exhibitions, innovation artists and a swell of contests for best costume, best facial hair, best liar and best vendors in the courtyard.

The Steampunk and Makers Ball closes out INNOV8 Lafayette on Wednesday, April 30, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Trynd Building, located at 116 E. Vermilion St. in downtown Lafayette. Admission is $10 and all ages are welcome. For more information visit www.INNOV8Lafayette.com or call 337-291-1122.

Meeting of the Minds: How Lafayette's Government can apply the lessons of Steven Johnson

PlanLafayette will discuss the lessons of Steven Johnson and make recommendations about Refining Government.

 

Launch Hour- Makers and Manufacturers

Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion St.

11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

This event will present local businesses and inventors to the makers and manufacturers in Acadiana. Each participant is a success story in their industry and is here to help make your dreams a reality. Use this time to mingle and have lunch then move on to a presentation of participating businesses and inventors. Open to the public.

 

Makers and Manufacturers Breakout Session

Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion St.

1 - 2:30 p.m.

 

The Break Out Session is an opportunity for the participants to answer questions and offer guidance on making your invention a success.

 

Webinar: What is 3D Printing and Where is it Going?

Lafayette Science Museum, 433 Jefferson St.

3 p.m.

 

Vinnie Savoy, owner of a 3D printing studio, will discuss the 3 main types of printing processes, how 3D Printing is being used now, and where the technology can bring us.

 

stART: First Date

5 - 6:30 p.m.

 

After eight days of courting, let’s see what our creative community has in mind and if there’ll be future dates, or even if there’s new collaborative work on the horizon.
