ErnestAndCelestine Still02For May, the Cane Fire Film Series will be screening the French animated film Ernest & Celestine, based on the beloved children’s books by Gabrielle Vincent.

The film follows Ernest, a big bear, a clown and musicians who lives on the fringes of bear society, which frowns upon friendships between bears and mice. But Ernest nonetheless welcomes the little mouse Celestine into his home.

Celestine is an orphan and has fled the mouse world down below. The two solitary characters find support and comfort in one another, but in the process, fly in the face of convention, inevitably upsetting the established order.

The Cane Fire Film Series screens Ernest & Celestine on Monday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m., at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, located at 101 W. Vermilion St., in downtown Lafayette. For more information, visit AcadianaCenterfortheArts.org.
