The Don’ts 1. Don’t spend any money. After start-up, if your business doesn’t support itself let it die quietly. 2. Don’t get lazy. Taking days off is not cool. You will work 24/7. Its not a job, it is your Livelihood. 3. Don’t be afraid to be different. If your town already has 20 cafes don’t open another one. Set new trends or go home. 4. Don’t hire your friends. Don’t hire anyone. If they want to be Co-Op partners who have investments of their own that’s different. 5. Don’t be evil. Really, just don’t.
David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. Calhoun was named executive director, and Brooks is director of planning and design.
There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
