Bach Lunch kicks off its 2011 spring series on March 18. There’s no better way to welcome spring than by enjoying your lunch in Parc Sans Souci while listening to some great live music. Bach Lunch is Lafayette’s only free lunchtime concert series. This spring, Fridays will be spiced up with the introduction of new bands and restaurants to the Bach Lunch lineup. This season will introduce jazz and blues bands from New Orleans, funk from members of George Porter Jr., and local Grammy winning Cajun music. Bach Lunch will also add some tropical flair to Festival International by presenting the Caribbean sensation Le Grand Baton from Guadeloupe.
Bach Lunch takes place every Friday in Parc Sans Souci, during lunch hours, between March 18 and April 29.
Bach Lunch 2011 spring schedule:
March 18: WATIV- featuring James Singleton of Astral Project, Simon Lott, William Thompson, and Chris Alford (Jazz/New Orleans)

Unfortunately, "Lost Bayou Ramblers" will not be able to make the Friday, April 1st Bach Lunch. To our delight, "Sasha Masakowski's Musical Playground" will be performing that date. Sasha has made a name for herself in New Orleans' talent rich landscape. Musical Playground is an expressive, exciting, and daring project that features some of New Orleans’ most promising young musicians. Sasha’s musicality can be seen as a direct influence of her mother and father. Ulrike and Steve Masakowski are both virtuoso professional musicians.

There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
Philip deMahy Sr., a once respected New Iberia ad exec, was sentenced May 2 to spend the next two years (he faced up to 100 years) in a state penitentiary after state and federal investigators found dozens of images depicting children engaged in lewd sexual acts on his personal computer.

A shelved ordinance transferring $200,000 from a northside drainage project to a south Lafayette development may not break any laws, but it stinks to high heaven.
