The Southern Open, set to begin May 12 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts' main gallery in Lafayette is accepting entries through March 25.
The Southern Open is a juried exhibition featuring artists from the five southern states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
Entries can include painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video/DVD and other multimedia / installations.
Artists must be 18 or older and the work original, completed within the past two years and not previously exhibited at the AcA in order to qualify for submission.
A juror's pick award of $1,000 and two $500 awards will be announced at the opening reception on May 12. The award winner will also receive a solo exhibition as part of the AcA's Side Gallery Series during May 2013.

There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
