The Louisiana natives who distinguished themselves in different artistic disciplines is among a half dozen who will receive the prestigious National Medal of Arts from President Obama this week.

The Center for Louisiana Studies offers its latest free cultural seminar with this month’s topic Cajun, Creole and Zydeco Dancing: What It Is and What It Isn’t.

The Cane Fire Film Series will screen Cathryne Czubek’s A Girl and A Gun, which examines America’s expansive yet diverse female gun community, on Sunday, July 7, at Cité des Arts. 

The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra’s annual Independence Day celebration takes place tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Parc International featuring a performance from Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band.
