A Lafayette native will pitch his sports fan apparel to the panel on ABC’s “Shark Tank” Friday night while our favorite champion of real science education will be on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” also tonight.

Organizers say the festival opens Friday, July 5, with R&B powerhouses Jill Scott and Maxwell as well as rapper LL Cool J and Brandy headlining the nightly concerts at the Superdome. On Saturday, Charlie Wilson, New Edition, Trey Songz, Keyshia Cole and Solange will entertain fans on the mainstage.

The New Orleans quartet has been barnstorming the nation for more than a decade, blasting enthusiastic crowds with their high-octane, hook-laden pop rock. But Friday at Parc International for the weekly Downtown Alive! concert, the band will get a unique introduction — by the Lafayette High Mighty Lion Marching Band.
