Acting Up (in Acadiana) commences its fall acting classes in early September. Classes are open for aspiring actors ages 7 to adult and are held at the Acadiana Center for the Arts downtown. The classes are taught by members of Acting Up (in Acadiana), the resident theater company at the AcA.

Led by Artistic Director Amy Waguespack, the company includes veterans from the stage, film and television who have worked in Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York and elsewhere.
Classes begin the week of Sept. 10. Elementary classes are held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays; junior high: 4:30-6 p.m. Mondays; high school/beginner adult: 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The registration fee is $85; monthly tuition is $60.

David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. Calhoun was named executive director, and Brooks is director of planning and design.
There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
