The Acadiana Center for the Arts is offering some really cool classes this month. Beginner guitar lessons, both for kids and adults, will be taught by instructors from Guitar Acadiana. Deborah Simeral, silk dyer extraordinaire, will be leading a class in Shibori — the Japanese art of dying cloth with a pattern, by binding, stitching, folding, twisting or compressing. Next month, Simeral teaches basket weaving and participants will make a traditional egg-gathering basket. For more info about the classes, click here, or call the AcA at 233-7060.

Philip deMahy Sr., a once respected New Iberia ad exec, was sentenced May 2 to spend the next two years (he faced up to 100 years) in a state penitentiary after state and federal investigators found dozens of images depicting children engaged in lewd sexual acts on his personal computer.
