Sky Blue clothing opening next to Imelda's

Larie Barnett and Candace Meche are opening Sky Blue clothing on Sept. 10 in the Pearson’s Shopping Center on Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Located next to Imelda's Fine Shoes, the store offers an eclectic mix of new, vintage and reconstructed clothing and accessories.

Barnett and Meche say the clothing studio is inspired by a passion for rediscovering the past and incorporating it with the present, as contemporary items are chosen to compliment the vintage pieces.

The store will have professional seamstresses on-hand, updating and modifying as well as tailoring any Sky Blue article of clothing. “We love to take the best feature of a vintage piece and create something new and unique,” Barnett says. “We want our creations to be as distinctive as the people who are wearing them.”

A Dallas native, Barnett is a small business owner in Lafayette — where she has lived for the past 11 years — and has about 15 years of retail experience. Meche is originally from Baton Rouge but has lived in this area for the past two decades. She has six years of retail experience. For both, this is their first venture into retail as owners.
