Leona Boullion, MS, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Women's & Children's Hospital, recently graduated from the Johnson & Johnson-Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives. The intensive three-week management education program provides high-level nurse executives with business and management knowledge for the health care industry. The program is conducted annually at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, one of the top business schools in the U.S. Participants must apply to the program and are subjected to a rigorous selection process. This year 39 nurse leaders were selected from the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Perri Bezdek Prellop, a Baton Rouge native, has joined the staff at OncoLogics, Inc. Dr. Prellop is also a published author as well as an honor graduate from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine.

During the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Louisiana's ceremonial bill signing luncheon in Baton Rouge in late July, The American Heart Association honored Lafayette surgeon Dr. Mitchell Lirtzman for his medical testimony presented to the Louisiana State Legislature for Senate Bill 742, the Louisiana Smoke-Free Act.
The Award of Excellence in Community Service for The Association Of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses was recently presented to Dr. Anne Broussard, a professor at the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at UL Lafayette. The award was presented at AWHONN's annual convention.
Dr. David Allie, a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at Cardiovascular Institute of the South, recently performed the first TURBO-Booster System case in the United States. This procedure was part of the CELLO trial, sponsored by Spectranetics, at Southwest Medical Center, and was performed on a 72-year-old woman suffering from severe claudicating.

Dr. Jeffrey Joseph, a Lafayette otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon, has created and donated an original oil painting titled "Survivor" to the Residents Relief Fund, originally founded to assist LSU's ENT residents in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Prints of Joseph's painting, a depiction of flooded Charity with an LSU Tiger emerging from the floodwater in a display of fortitude, will be given to each member of the LSU Medical Alumni Association who makes a minimum $250 donation to the fund.
