What began yesterday as Tropical Depression Seven is now Hurricane Gustav. With sustained winds at 90 miles per hour, Gustav is a Category 1 hurricane. The National Hurricane Center predicts that the storm could become a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall in Haiti today. The latest advisory was issued at 7 a.m. central time. The next advisory will be issued at 10 a.m.
David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. Calhoun was named executive director, and Brooks is director of planning and design.
