The Pew Center on the States reports that 1 in 31 adults in America is in prison or jail, or on probation or parole. In a report released yesterday, the group says 25 years ago, that number was 1 in 77. In Louisiana, 1 in 26 adults is in the correctional system, and 1 in 55 is behind bars in jail or prison. David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park.
