Solar car rolls into New Orleans, gets burglarized

Marcelo da Luz drove his solar-powered car into New Orleans on Sunday, with a support crew trailing him. But The Times-Picayune reports that after the van was parked in the French Quarter for less than an hour, thieves broke in and stole passports, laptops, credit cards, cash, a digital camera and a portable hard drive – an estimated loss of $10,000. Luz is travelling 15,000 miles in his solar powered car to raise awareness about solar energy. After hearing the story, New Orleanians have already donated $1,000 and a laptop computer to da Luz and his crew.

All I want to know is if the car had locks. Because you may be smart enough to build a solar powered car but if you parked it in NOLA with out locking it.........well that is not that smart.

Ten years ago I moved here from N.O. and whether it's N.O., Lafayette, Eunice, Kansas City, etc. drivers should NEVER leave anything in their car that can be seen from outside the car. That's just common sense.
