The League of Women Voters is hosting its first Mayor's Forum, an event that aims to bring together Lafayette Mayor-President Joey Durel with the mayors of the five other parish municipalities to discuss their visions for the future. The format for the event, which is free and open to the public, will consist of a brief statement from each of the mayors followed by questions from the audience.
The meeting takes place at noon today in the Fine Arts Room of South Lafayette Community College, 320 Devalcourt. Attendees are invited to arrive at 11:30 for a free gumbo lunch.
David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
