Daily World building sold

More consolidation is taking place at Gannett Company's Acadiana operations as part of the Virginia-based media giant's ongoing downsizing. The Daily World reported yesterday that an agreement has been reached between its parent company and Hargroder Equity Partners to sell the building that now houses the newspaper staff on the I-49 S. Service Road in Opelousas.

Hargroder Equity Partners is purchasing the building as an investment property, according to the story. The sales price was not disclosed.

The INDsider has learned that all four members of the advertising staff from the Opelousas paper will eventually be relocated to the Lafayette Daily Advertiser's building on Bertrand Drive; the head of advertising in Opelousas has reportedly already made the move. That means the paper's lone reporter, William Johnson, and its lone photographer, Freddie Herpin, will likely be the only staff remaining at a yet-to-be-determined office location in Opelousas.

Loan photographer? I thought he was full-time for them. Who else does he work for? Or is that just a typo?

Lafayette is in serious need of a new daily newspaper that will be in print and an online version. I know it's asking a lot , but why doesn't the Independent step up to the plate and swing for the cheap seats? I think the merchants of Lafayette would greatly appreciate having an alternative source to put their ads out there and the Independent is conservative enough without being arrogant about it that the PEOPLE of Lafayette would see it as a more grounded common sense source of news from our area than the Daily Advertiser has been in a very long time. Wishful thinking? Probably, but I can dream, can't I?

I think there have been a lot of people in recent years wishing for a change in the slant of The Daily Advertiser. Me included. Can I dream a while with you?
Advertiser? What Advertiser

Newspapers are dying. It is likely the Advertiser will be gone or radically changed in short order. The Ind may go on a little longer but on real paper? I doubt it.
