The Sun Belt Conference today announced its pre-season team, with UL linemen Brad Bustle and Chris Fisher landing the only two Cajun spots. Word of the team comes on the first of two media days being hosted by the conference.
The team is voted on by SBC-member coaches and select members of the media. Both Bustle and Fisher were All-Sun Belt selections a year go and have been named to the 2009 Lombardi Award Watch List. For more on the duo, click here.
In light of budget cuts to athletic departments across the country, the SBC this year decided to forego the annual media event in New Orleans and replace it with a video conference spotlighting coaches and players. Members of the media can watch players from all nine member schools online through the use of streaming video or can opt for audio only. Bustle and Fisher are scheduled to be interviewed at 11:30 a.m. today.
David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. Calhoun was named executive director, and Brooks is director of planning and design.
There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
