Scott Daniels out at KXKC

KXKC 99.1 FM's Scott Daniels, who ruled the airwaves in the mornings when he sat next to Renee Rivet before her relocation to Houston in May 2006, was let go from the station. Daniels, a 17-year KXKC veteran, had been handling the morning show duties solo in the last couple of months, says Chuck Wood, who recently was named general manager at the radio station group, which includes KSMB 94.5 FM and is now owned by Citadel Broadcasting. Wood worked for the group before Citadel purchased it more than a decade ago.

“I’m only going to say Scott Daniels has been replaced with a new morning show,” Wood says.

renee_and_scott.jpgAlthough the morning show lost some of its audience when Rivet left, reducing "The Breakfast Flakes" to a single flake, Wood says the show experienced an uptick in the last ratings books and maintains KXKC was “doing fine” in the ratings. “It wasn’t doing what I wanted it to do,” he acknowledges. “Management decided to make a change in the direction of the radio station.”

On the air this morning was the new team of Ray Robicheaux and Jeni Lane. Robicheaux, who has been with the station for five years, is also the new program director.

STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!! Scott has been with the radio station since DAY 1 and this is what they do to him! He's helped tons of charities raise money or even done good deeds for people. He just wrapped up the Crunch and Munch drive for the Marines. Citadel is stupid for letting go their most loyal employee! ONE THING IS FOR SURE, I'm not listening to KXKC again, nor any other Citadel station for that matter. Bobby, Ali, and "Tawana" bother the HELL out of me! BIG MISTAKE!!!

THANK YOU GOD!!!!! I stopped listening to that show even before Renee left. It was just SSSOOOOO tiresome listening to his non-stop gambling blather. He could be funny, especially in the early days. Every month or so, I'd tune in to check if it was better and it got dumber and meaner all the time. I'm relieved the management had the courage to go for quality! I'll be happy to check KXKC out again --

Anyone else think it's ODD that Citadel as a whole have let go of majority of their staff? I understand economy but letting go of popular DJ's and valued employees..Chris Reed, Casey, Scott and Mary Galen were all FIRED .. Without warning or cause they were let go .. Sounds like to me a certain group of stations is tanking and they are holding on to a sinking ship..Good Luck Bobby ..Sounds like you might be NEXT!

Every since they went all corporate... KXKC has gone to pot. I very much enjoyed the "good ole days" with the flakes when they could be their own people... do local interviews, attract big named stars to their show... I can't remember how many tour buses I saw at their studio in New Iberia. But the big company came in and distroyed all that. They are now cookie cutter. Renee was an OUTSTANDING program manager always being in front of the curve with their "SONG LIST" (the DNA of any Radio Station) - and Scott... well I coudln't stop laughing with that guy. The end of an era brought down by the big corporations - Thank GOD for Sirius/XM

He has been totally awesome for Acadiana with so much caring and charity giving. As soon as I find out where he is, I will change to that station and a lot of people I know will too. It's about what's going on around here not about what corporation wants!!!!

No doubt Scott will move on to bigger and better venues, but he's the only reason to listen to KXKC ! I too have satellite radio and know there is no other reason to listen to commercial radio except for the personality of the DJ... I think for the station's sake, this is a big error, but I think for Scotty, it can be "the big time". I know he likes his home town area, but he's got the knowledge, the experience and the personality to make a real future for himself. In this day of uncertainty, the corporation is taking a big chance in changing up. Maybe they should have considered talking to the man if "they" wanted to bump things up, but I think their days are numbered as Chuck Woods' days are also.... I think I see the handwriting on the wall.

I think everyone is being just a little over the top. Don't get me wrong, Scott was very talented at what he did, and sometimes was a great guy. There were many times where he wasn't very nice to me whether it be in person or over the phone. And i know he wasn't very nice to alot of other people; however, like i said, he was very talented and what he did and kept me laughing.

With that being said, KXKC wasn't all about Scott Daniels. There are other very talented personalities on that station. Probably some of the most talented in Acadiana. Jen, Craig Wall, Big Al, Ray Robicheaux, and now Jeni Lane. I just ask all of you to give it a chance. Ray and Jeni have been doing a great job for being a brand new morning team.

Everyone is taking it out on KXKC. KXKC is part of a nationwide company. The bliss of the Bonin ownership has been gone a long time ago. I honestly don't think it's what KXKC wanted to do, its what coporate wanted to do. One thing about Corporate Radio is that it takes localism out of the picture, but with Ray and Jeni Lane, pretty much all they talk about is "local" things and that's refreshing. I love hearing things about the local community.

To the ones who like to talk about Scott's Charity work. Just because he's gone, i don't think the charity work will go away. To keep people in the community happy charity work will have to continue for that station. I look forward to hearing how KXKC will change. I understand that they got rid of Scott to take this station into a "different direction." Goodness, I hope it works out for them!

Ray, Jeni Lane, Jen, Big Al, Craig...don't let all these negative comments get you down. Keep doing what you are doing, and you will attract an entire different audience!!! Keep on keepin' on guys! I love ya'll, and always will!

Scott, I wish you the best and enjoyed your years of service!

Not happy that KXKC let Scott Daniels go. He's been a friend for years, BUT I was a fan before I was a friend. I've missed Mardi Gras with him. I like all kinds of music, and he's the only country music I listened to. I'll be switching. I do believe this will be good for Scott though. I hope he looks at moving to bigger audiences, bigger cities. I know country is what he's used to, but he has the talent and personality (and experience) to do any type of radio he chooses. I know he loves this area and its where his family is, but I really hope he takes a chance. THE BEST REVENGE IS SUCCESS !!! DON'T LET THE BAS***DS GET YOU DOWN !!!

KXKC will no longer be my station in my drive to work or office. I been listening to Scott and Renee since Hurricane Andrew. I was really upset when Renee left. I am "SHOCKED" about Scott. How can you say your rating were high but you want them higher. Don't "LET GO SOMEONE" for this reason. Come up with some kind of game plan. I LOVED listen to KXKC like others and will move on to "THE DAWG" until I find were Scott will be. I use to have XM Radio but turned it off because I was paying for nothing. I too will follow Scott to his new BIGGER & BETTER place. Chuck, my suggestion to you is BIRNG HIM back or you will be DOWN on ratings instead of up. Jason, seems you are very interested and "loyal" to Citadel Broadcasting. Makes one wonder if you are not some how involved with that company. I for one, will listen to The Dawg and KXKC. The talent on The Dawg, is now, by far now better than KXKC. I can relate to those people because of their stable air staff. Considering Regent has not yet laid off one person, seems that Citadel is the weaker link. In a media class of mine, Regent was often spoken of and Citadel was never really mentioned. Sad that Citadel is going under. Fairwell to all the good talent that was laid off. Take that in stride and your time will come to out shine those who have taken advantage of you and that have laid you off.

Add yet another "true talent" to be released by Citadel. So many good people have been let go, and so many local personalities are being forced out of that place. Its on the verge of imploding and not even Chuck Wood can stop it. Too many of the wrong people have been let go, and all the wrong ones who do nohing for this community have stayed put. Scotty was the last "true KXKC DJ" and now as he leaves we do to. Good Luck to those still left as your day is coming and we will be back shortly to mention your name like we have of Scott's.

I am very upset and surprised that KXKC would let someone like Scott Daniels go after 17 yrs. This man was a great caring person that people really loved in the morning. If the ratings were so bad and people wouldnt listen why was he able to get 65% of the community together for our troops to gather more than 5000 boxes of snacks. I am honestly disgusted with the negativity of some people. And, can definately relate to what Jason was saying... Imagine you are a dedicated local at any restaurant... you go there every morning, drink your coffee, chit chat with the same waitresses and local folks... but things don't always remain the same over time... people change, life changes, the coffee even changes. Just because a 'waitress' was lost doesnt mean the product has to be altered?

Maybe people should just have more of an open mind to things... In no way am I defending Citadel, I will miss Scott Daniels on my drive to work. He cracks me up!! But have any of you ever thought that things may not always be how they appear... just becuase someone tells you how something ended doesn't mean that, that is what really happened? IE, the news? Do you really think that what the media tells us is really how it is? Nope. It isn't.
Everyone is jumping on the 'im switching stations becuase things there don't change'... If my memory serves me correctly, things haven't always been the same there either. But how soon people forget...

Things are in constant change, its just the way life goes. Why are you so quick to snap judgement, when you honestly have no idea what you are talking about... Life is all about change, and it may not always be a bad thing for all involved.

Scott, I wish you the best! A true radio talent! I am positive he will find joy in his future career. And may you find the best of what is to come to you... Miss ya!

Run laps around Citadel? Maybe you people need to think again... Wasn't KXKC THHHEEE number one morning show for years now? Since years ago when it was in New Iberia. Up until the last 2, or maybe 3yrs? They have a little bad luck and all of a sudden they are getting all this negative commentary? And take a look at the rest of the Citadel stations. Q95.5 has a great morning show, and Rock 93.7 has been completely revamped! Anyone even realize that? I guess it doesn't matter to corporate America on how dedicated an employee is. KXKC has been my radio station of choice for the past 20 years or so. Though I have nothing against the new morning hosts, I always enjoyed the start of my day with Scott. Especially when Renee was still there. Scott told it like it was. The fact that his dismissal wasn't even mentioned on air to his fans is what bothers me most of all. There are other radio stations, (and I will be listening to THEM now) but there was only ONE Scott Daniels. MISS YOU SCOTT!

How can you let someone go who's been there for so long raising so much money and helping so many people..yes, we see what's going on here. They think we're stupid listners....you don't give us an explaination? Why you got rid of Scott? Was it personal? Or did the boss get the big head at work and start tossing his OR her weight around....don't know...whatever the case...poor taste and disrepectful to us listeners. Looks like corperate radio don't care about the little people...only cares about saving money. Everyone in radio is has a pretty short shelf life so enjoy it while you can ladies and gents.

Not anywhere on anything does it give a reason for he OR Casey getting let go. And everyone wants to make their own assumptions... fine, do so. But did you ever think that maybe, just maybe it was something that they as an employee did? Just because you hear an 'on air' show doesnt mean anything, you never ever see the 'behind' the scenes. "Raising so much money" and all the "Charities"... its called, getting paid to do your job people. That stuff wont stop just because he isnt there anymore. When someone at your office quits or is fired or let go or whatever, they hire someone right? To do the same job? HELLO... thats the same concept here people! "The boss getting a big head?" What would that have to do with firing someone? You CAN get fired for not doing what you are paid to do... I dont think anyone should just to conclusion without having any real facts for or against the reason why they arent there anymore... What if he just got tired of it? He has been in radio for YEARS... maybe he just wanted to get out of the spot light? And... since when is that idea wrong? or something to get so bent up about? Give the guy a break for Pete's sake.
I think he was great on the show... Casey, not so much. I stopped listening when she came on. Nothing she said was ever positive, and I REFUSED to let my children listen to some of the crude things that came out of her mouth. All she talked about was men and getting drunk. Not a pleasant person.

"Corporate America" may have been the only to see things that we as listeners dont get to see. Ever think about that?
And disrespectful to listeners? Why? He's human for Petes sake! What if he was just over it, let him have his peace, what if he was let go? Why bring something that may not be ANYONEs business to the surface. Get over it. Listen, or dont listen.

Good to hear about Scott at Hampton, means we don't have to listen to him anymore. You could not listen to him with your kids in the car, or that other girl that was with him talking about being drunk all the time. Good to see someone was bold enough to take a stand!

I have been a faithful listener for years now and I have to say when family is family that is taking literally. The morning show is just NOT the same.. the voices of these 2 people annoy the UGH" out of me. That girl in the morning OMG like an annoying bug I now listen to CD's or the DAWG... they will pick up ratings for sure because this stupid company decided to get rid of just great people.. shame on them. I know they have let go of some other people that I adored and you know what CHUCK WOOD you need to be fired yourself. YOU are stupid! I would sit in my car while Mike Evans was doing his little gig and check it out before getting out of my car.. I enjoyed it that much. Bring Scott back if you want to get your listeners back.. YOU just SUCK it's really as simple as that!

Do you really think anyone cares about your comments here? Really? I've never seen such a group of babies whine so much since I visited a hospital with newborns! People get a life, things in radio change, people move on! Are you really going to tell me that your life revloved around a few DJ's? Maybe its you we need to be concerned about. Wow, turn the radio, listen to your iPod, but most importantly get a freaking life!

Ok, I will listen to my ipod. Guess we hit a nerve. The truth hurts doesn't it? Must be a kxkc employee who writes stuff like this. May as well tell us to listen to our ipods. When arbitron comes out, well just mark off a vote for station IPOD. Oh, and maybe someone needs to take a chill pill....come on really...get a life? As Reba sings "Is There Life Out There?". Maybe there is at the DAWG...cause that dog sure ain't dead.

(Reuters) - Citadel Broadcasting Corp (CTDB.OB) offered a deal to exchange a major part of its debt for equity to senior lenders owed $2 billion, including JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM.N), GE Capital and ING Groep NV (ING.AS), the Wall Street Journal said, citing people familiar with the negotiations.
On Wednesday, Citadel faced a deadline to make a $2 million interest payment, but the status remained unclear, the paper added.

Discussions have slowed in recent days in part as some lenders have been caught off-guard by Federal Communications Commission rules intended to limit concentrated holdings of media firms, the people told the paper.

Citadel could not be immediately reached for a comment by Reuters.

In June, Citadel, which operates the ABC Radio Network, hired Lazard Freres as an advisor to evaluate options, including a possible refinancing and restructuring of its capital structure.

No it really does not hit a nerve, I don't listen to any of the stations in town, I choose satellite. I just happen to agree with the person earlier, do you stop going to a restaurant because your favorite waitress is gone? I honestly don't see all the hype, someone just told me about the article and I figured what the heck, I'd chime in. From the looks of this blog section everyone will need some luck.

First off, Honesty - you're trying to compare a radio station to a restaurant? What you tend to overlook is the fact that Radio becomes a part much more personal part of a listener's life. They wake up people up in the morning, drive them to work, cry with them, and spend holidays with them as well. They do this everyday and it becomes an itergral part of their lives. I like it when I have the same friendly voice to turn to on the radio. When I go to a resturaunt, I don't get the same stuff like ...news, traffic, weather, great music, and a fun person to tell me jokes. Additionally, I'm almost always served by a different waiter each time. Hey congrats Scott on you're new gig. I wish you the best. I'm sure the folks in Acadiana will be ready and willing to open their wallest for a great hometown station like KBON.

To the restaurant comment: My answer is YES, probably, since most eateries I frequent as basically the same. I HAVE done it as a matter of fact. One place I used to go to often let their chef go, and I followed that chef to the new place. I have my favorites. I frequent those places, listen to those shows, prefer certain movie houses. I LOVE being able to express my dissatisfaction, esp. in this venue. I listen to music when I'm travelling, to work or during the day and to go home, and that is mostly satellite radio, so when a favored DJ, and friend is let go, I'm tickled to death to be able to express my opinion on that. I am interested in KBON, and I'll give it a try, but I have to admit, I'm not big on "swamp pop". I'll give it a try though 'cause I'm real big into supporting local "stuff". I really don't understand anyone getting upset with people expressing their disappointment or blaming The Independent for it. I appreciate their generosity in allowing us to vent.

Yes, Scott was a little crazy, but that's what made it interestiing. I do not like the two that are on in the morning and this has caused me to stop listening to KXKC in the morning and will possibly lead to another station altogether...DUMB MOVE on the stations part!!!

Scott, if you ever get a chance to read this. I listenrf from Baton Rouge. I use to listen to you and Renee. I was so sorry to hear her go and I think I remembered Casey from a Baton Rouge station that she worked at years ago, but I might be wrong there. I enjoyed you two as well. Casey was a little negative but you always picked her up and that's just life, everyone isn't chipper all the time and they need someone to pick them up! I did like Robicheaux in the evenings by himself, but I don't like him with this new girl. They sound so rehearsed. I wish you the best. They should have moved Jen with you, that would have been a good move! Thankful for the years we did get to listen.

With Scott and Casey gone, I can't tell the difference between the country stations anymore. The new folks have the personality of oatmeal...nothing to either love nor hate.

BTW, tell the young lady to use her natural voice and not "amplify" the country accent...real is better.
