Much maligned Vitter: junior 'sin-ator' back in spotlight

Poor David Vitter. He doesn’t even have to do anything salacious these days to have his name dragged through the mud over and over again. Yesterday, fellow Republican Mark Sanford, the governor of South Carolina whose name made the 2012 presidential watch list, tearfully fessed up to an affair with an Argentinian woman. The week before, Republican Sen. John Ensign admitted a fling with a member of his campaign staff.

Whose mug pops up at the top of The New York Times op-ed piece titled “How Do Politicians Survive Sex Scandals?” Louisiana’s own “serious sinner,”  whose name is forever linked with the D.C. Madam. While Democrats have done their share of straying, (New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, President Bill Clinton) they are not the party of “family values.”

Politicians like Vitter and Sanford have sanctimoniously indicted the dems for undermining marriage and family values while stepping out on the side themselves. And it’s their hypocrisy, more than the temptations of the flesh, that may cause their political undoing. Vitter has survived in office so far, but his seat, coming up for a 2010 election, is seen as vulnerable. Democratic U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon is gearing up for the race

From coast to coast and circling the blogosphere, Louisiana’s junior “sin-ator” is reliving his moment of shame in the sun.

Now we have it in print from Mary - the Democrats are the not the Party of Family Values. Perhaps we might reasonably say that the Democrats are the party of anti-family values.

The reality is that the vast majority of Democrats fight for the working class, the poor and the disenfranchised. The vast majority of Republicans wrap themselves in the flag and the Bible while they betray hard working Americans by pursuing policies that harm most Americans while benefiting the rich and well-connected. What makes the affairs and use of prostitutes by Vitter, Livingston, Gingrich, Ensign, Craig, & now Sanford so pernicious and vile is that they all were so vociferous in proclaiming the mantle of "family values" and being such piously moral religious paragons of virtue in what they claimed was a stark contrast to the evil liberal Democrats who had no values. So once again we have the "Do as we say, not as we do" faux morality of the conservative Republicans versus the true American family values of President Obama who has been working hard to rescue our nation from the past 8 years of mismanagement and flagrant illegal & immoral behavior in the White House & their conservative enablers like Vitter. So when Vitter beats his chest and attacks a real family values man like President Obama, it makes the decent, hard working citizens of Louisiana nauseous and ashamed to have such a hypocrite as our Senator.

Oh really, Democrats are the party for the working middle class?

They sure don't seem to care about the working middle class in Louisiana.

Look at the two big initiatives President Obama and his allies are trying to push this week.

1. All out assault on the petro-chemical industry with this Cap and Tax legislation. The petro-chemical industry is very important to the country, and here in Louisiana, allows tens of thousands of working Louisiana residents to provide a decent living for their families. Even those who are not able to attend college are able to start out making $60k/hr. out of high school. What other industry can you do that in? The Obama/Pelosi Democrats are doing their best to ruin this great asset in Louisiana.

2. Then they want to raise taxes on those same working families, including likely employer health care benefits, to fund government health care for "50 million uninsured Americans", millions of whom can afford but CHOOSE not to buy health insurance, and millions more who CHOOSE not to work and have been living off of government welfare and housing for years.

Tens of thousands of middle, working class families in Louisiana will get hit double and hard with these two Obama-Democrat plans.

How is that for "fighting for the working class"?

I believe the intent of the statement is that the repubs like to vilify dems, but it has been my experience that democrats are very family oriented. I beleive those who embrace values that are of benefit to families do not approve of adultery, cheating, prostitution (or partaking of the services of prostitutes on the public dime)regardless of their political party. I have never forgotten Mr. Vitter's actions or excuses, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with his name being mentioned with others who perform the same misdeeds. I believe, come election time, many others will demonstrate they have a clear memory of what David Vitter is really about. I sympathize with his children only. They are the innocent ones who have to face the ridicule of their father's actions. How he can look those children in the eyes and face the humiliation they have suffered, I'll never know.

To Actions not words

You forgot Eliot Spitzer and President Clinton, and don't forget Barney Frank (that's another kettle of fish). As to President Obama, his foreign policy continues the Bush one. Iraq is winding down (we hope) but Afghanistan needs attention. Obama knew, despite his campaign rhetoric, to pull out post haste could develop into all sorts of problems. As to illegal behavior, there is plenty to go around for Republicans and Democrats. Immoral behavior? It often depends on your point of view.

Yes you are right Ross Little, Democrats are NOT the "Party of Family Values"

If by family values you mean: to pretend you stand up for something to gain a position of trust, and then can't even be trusted to be faithful to your wife, who you pledged before God to be faithful to.

If you can't be trusted by your family then what makes you think he can be trusted by his constituents. If he had ANY values at all he would have admitted that he was a fake and stepped down. But he didn't and that says alot.

Republicans bring hypocrisy to a whole new level

Since yesterday, NBC started counting sex scandals in politics over the last decade, starting with the Clinton/Lewinsky debacle. So far writers Domenico Montanaro and Mark Murray are up to 24. If you're down for the count, go to http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com...76721.aspx

LOL, like the 95% Obama has continued to mention he is looking out for? The 95% who will be hit hardest if the cap/tax makes it through? The 95% who spend MORE of their income on food, gas to get to/from their jobs and heat their homes??? Yeah, the Dems are really looking out for the working class, the poor and the disenfranchised.
