The Lafayette Parish School System still has 14 openings in pre-K classes for 3 year olds at Alice Boucher Elementary School. The openings are for children zoned for Alice Boucher only. Registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in Room 402 at the Vermilion Conference Center. Parents or guardians must bring the child’s birth certificate, social security card, vaccination record, a utility bill to show residency and proof of income. Call 521-7162 to find out more.
To be eligible for the pre-K-3 program, a child must be 3 years old on or before Sept. 30.
David Calhoun and Elizabeth “EB” Brooks are the first two employees of Lafayette Central Park Inc., the nonprofit charged with turning Lafayette Consolidated Government’s 100-acre Johnston Street Horse Farm property into a passive public park. Calhoun was named executive director, and Brooks is director of planning and design.
There will soon be a whole lot of shakin’ going on at Benny’s Sportshack Supplement Depot, a new concept by Opelousas native Benny Nele. Located at 2002 Johnston St., the supplement shop, smoothie bar and café, featuring hot off the press paninis and wraps, plans to open in late May.
