Beausoleil performs for BeauSoleil

team.jpgBeausoleil avec Michael Doucet, Acadiana's premier Cajun band and longtime ambassadors for Acadiana culture, were in our nation's capital late last week to join with UL's Team BeauSoleil at the Department of Energy-sponsored Solar Decathlon.

The competition pitted solar home designs from 20 universities around the world. And while UL's BeauSoleil home finished in 19th place, the house won the market viability leg of the competition as well as the People's Choice Award.

The video below was shot by Independent freelance photographer Isabel Lasalla.

Thanks for the video - I was hoping to see the band in D.C. How proud are we of UL? They won just by getting IN to that elite competition! I marvel at their talent. Great job!

The U.S. Dept of Energy's 2009 Solar Decathon was such an incredible experience for us. As a graduate student in architecture, I realize the invaluable knowledge we have gained by participating. We are so proud to have gone to this outstanding and prestigious international competition to proudly represent the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Southern Culture, and the State of Louisiana. Bringing home the market viability and people's choice award really shows that we did our best to meet the needs and desires of the people by designing a home that's hurricane resistant and culturally-relevant.
