When the Tommy Comeaux Fund hit its $1M goal last December, 10 years after Comeaux’s death and right before the band Atchafalaya re-united onstage, few folks were thinking about what might come next. Now that the UL Lafayette Foundation has unveiled the late musician and physician’s memorial Eminent Scholar Chair in Traditional Music and its development is underway, the volunteers who’ve helmed the effort have announced that the Medicine Shows will continue. Matching funds from the Board of Regents are still available to build the fund, and Medicine Show 12 will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26 at Grant Street Dancehall.

This year’s show will be smoke-free, the doors will open at 7 p.m. and the lineup will include, in order of appearance: The Rocking Shapes Reunion, BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, and Sonny Landreth and his band with special guest Lazy Lester. Advance tickets are $15. Charge by phone at (337) 233-7060 or get ‘em in person at the Acadiana Center for the Arts box office.
