The same critics of the Tea Party Members also voted against women voting !
The same critics of the Tea Party Members also voted against intergration !
The same critics of the Tea Party Members also voted against taxes and the mininum wage !
The same Critics of the Tea Party Members also voted against legalized Gambling in Lafayette parish, and " Viola, REDFLEX was brought in only because the voters in the parish would not vote for a tax increase ".
These same critics are easily identifiable through their beady eyes, facial red veins, bulbous blue nose and their markalot printed initials on their big gulp dixie cup. - chano leal

Something the tea party and I can agree on. I have no doubt that there are countless safety benefits from the cameras, I think it reduces speeding and red light running and a host of other public goods.

What I don't believe is that it is an appropriate action to do that. Just like I am sure that cameras in every home would prevent domestic abuse and drug use, it would not be legitimate for government to do. These cameras aren't even government, they are a private, for-profit contractor. They only make money if drivers continue to break the law, what motivation do they have to change drivers' behaviors?

If these cameras were run by the City/Parish and issued actual tickets instead of the revenue generating print outs, I might have less of a problem.

I'm not living in Lafayette right now, but if I were, I would support these tea party backed council members (at least on this one issue), and that kind of surprises me. - Michael Urness

If I DID live in Chicago, your post might be interesting?????? In Lafayette, LA (that's where I live) "Traffic Director Tony Tramel said — and has the EMPERICAL EVIDENCE to prove it in the form of crash data at intersections where the cameras have been installed — that the program’s purpose is to change driver behavior (for the better) and make Lafayette streets SAFER" (for me, for my children, and for you). - Jack Cormier

I have a simple answer to this issue. Just let the people vote yes or no. Now can someone please tell me why this has never happened in the first place? - Michael A. Moss

PHOTO enforcement claim by towns that it is about "safety" are a LIE!

Check out another Redflex city CHICAGO:

http://theexpiredmeter.com/2012/03/tribune-hammers-citys-pedestrian-fatality-claims/

Quote:

"For months now, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been touting the safety benefits of red light cameras in regards to reducing pedestrian deaths, to make his emotional case to install speed cameras in Chicago.

60% reduction! Emanuel and his people claimed.

But when asked to provide the raw data or the reports, City Hall claimed it was secret. And even with FOIA requests being made for the info, the Trib never got their report.
So, reporters tried a different tactic. Use federal crash data on Chicago to do their own analysis of pedestrian fatalities at red light camera intersections, the Trib comes up with a 26% reduction in pedestrian deaths. Not 60%.

In addition, similar to what The Expired Meter discovered, that 26% mirrors the general citywide decline in crashes and pedestrian fatalities.

In other words, red light cameras may not be doing anything to improve safety."

All three are officers of Resolute Consulting, a public relations firm based in Chicago, Illinois. Redflex is one of the firm's satisfied clients.

Why in the world would the tea-party or their "backed" council members possibly oppose a traffic enforcement system that "changes driver behavior (for the better) and makes Lafayette streets safer".
If it also "generates revenue for local government" while performing said service, Even Better! - Jack Cormier
