Might want to do a bit of research. People who live in Lafayette pay $1.59 per 1,000 gallons; everyone outside of the city of Lafayette pays $3.18 per 1,000 gallons. Waste water is $5.52 per 1,000 gallons in Lafayette and $6.79 for everyone else. There is no sweetheart deal; everyone outside of Lafayette is paying a much higher rate. - Matthew Rowzee

Matt...i can't figure out what you don't understand. NO resident of any town outside of the city limits of lafayette pay city of lafayette taxes, yet recieves the same services as i do, AND their towns get the services at a reduced rate! what a sweetheart of a deal! I'd like that same deal to me as i am paying taxes for that service - Joe LeBlanc

Only Broussard does not have a city tax atm; every other town has one. You do know that LUS cuts Lafayette a check every year that equals ~30% of the entire city budget? Maybe you should talk to Durel if you are still paying taxes for LUS.

I haven't missed the point at all. Yes, we are all in the same parish. As a 'member' of LUS, i should recieve a better 'rate' than a 'nonmember', as my city taxes provide revenue for LUS. No other towns pay city tax. All other towns have benefitted for years thanks to LUS. With LUS water, rural subdivisions wouldn't have sprouted up nears as fast, as the developer would be on the hook to provide water AND sewage services, which as can be seen isn't a great option.
You are missing the point. We are all in the same parish; that is why Broussard is given a "reduced rate". - Matthew Rowzee

LUS isn't a parish service. Its a city of lafayette service, built by the city, for the city, paid for by city taxes, NOT parish taxes. - Joe LeBlanc

JoDu is protecting the interests of lafayette. The city of broussard gets city services without paying city taxes at a REDUCED RATE at that! Lay the hammer down on the inconsiderate clown JoDu! - Joe LeBlanc

Sorry, in this "battle" the only one throwing shells is Durel. Broussard's actions are responses to Durel's bullying, heavy handing of the given situation. If a law concerning bullying covered politicians, Durel would be found guilty on multiple counts--I repeat, multiple counts. As such, I still contend and maintain, that Durel is an honor graduate of the "STEWART SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES". Durel's management style-as well as that of key members of his administration-is more intuned with and can be likened to Kim Yu Il, Stalin, Sadam Hussein, as well as many others. Durel's approach to any and all issues as such: "it's my way or the highway".

Amy Jones, a Lafayette-based publicist who is representing Broussard in its ongoing public-relations battle with Durel and LCG, accuses Durel and consolidated government of risking public safety to grind an ax: ““We cannot continue to play games with public safety and put citizens in the unincorporated areas at risk,” Jones says
