Net tax collections from cigarettes alone amounted to $3,374,608 per cent of tax charged ($121,485,891/36 cents per pack) for 2011. The projected increase of $223 million dollar from an additional tax $1.00 per pack would translate to a tobacco revenue of $2,230,000 for each cent of additional tax ($223,000,000/$100 cents of increase). It is difficult to accept that such an increase would result in revenue reduction of $1,144,608 of collections(a 33.92% revenue reduction). Especially, when one realizes this projection is for “cigarette and corresponding rates for other types of tabacco”. This projection is simply totally off base.
