Evolution: Fact or Fiction?

During a lecture at the American Museum of Natural History in 1981, prominent evolutionist Colin Patterson asked his esteemed audience of evolutionists a surprising question:
"Can you tell me anything you know about evolution, any one thing...that is true? I tried that question on the geology staff at the Field Museum of Natural History and the only answer I got was silence. I tried it on the members of the Evolutionary Morphology seminar in the University of Chicago, a very prestigious body of evolutionists, and all I got there was silence for a long time and eventually one person said 'I do know one thing--it ought not to be taught in high school.'"

Many people today accept evolution is a "fact." But is this truly the case? As indicated by the response to Colin Patterson's question, it would seem that the case for evolution is not as rock solid as many think. To be truly informed about the issue, we must also examine the other side of the story. I think that we will see that evolution is by no means a proven fact. On the contrary, there are good reasons to reject the theory of evolution. If you would like to know more go to http://www.geocities.com/athens/Delphi/8449/evol.html - A friend

First... by what authority does anyone get to call "creation science" pseudo-science? The "authority" of those who don't believe it to be real science? Isn't that a bit biased from the start? There is actually a growing community of "real" scientists who DO believe science supports the "theory of creation." You can find references to these lists all over the internet.
Second... since when does science squelch debate on any theory? As long as there are questions to be asked, there is debate. Since neither "evolution" nor "creation" can be repeated in a lab and there were no eye witness accounts of either (unless you believe the Bible is God's eyewitness account... but we'll set that aside for the purpose of this discussion), both theories, as well as any others, should be able to be discussed and explored freely. The tactics being used against creation science are the tactics of censorship, not science.
Third... because many "Christians" are "comfortable" with views other than the creation science views have nothing to do with whether one or the other is fact or not. Many "practicing" Christians have become "comfortable" with many views that are not Biblical.
Lastly... If the God of the Bible is real, then there IS only one God (because He says there is in the Bible). If the God of the Bible is real, then what He says is true. So what does He say? 1) That He created everything (the entire universe, what we know about and what we have yet to discover), 2) He created US and LOVES us, 3) He gave us FREE will to love Him back.. or not, He visited earth in the person of Jesus and died and rose (proof exists), 4) we can only be reconciled to God through Jesus (the Bible tells us that), and 5) There will be an end to what we know as creation today. Science supports it (things started at some point, the second law of thermodynamics tells us everything is decaying). The evidence through the ages and as we discover it today provides the proof of an Intelligent Designer. Just ONE of the many resources on this subject is a book written by Lee Strobel; a former journalist and athiest who set out to "prove" the case against God and found "The Case for a Creator" instead. - Marvin Moolenaar
