			<description>Walter, Thanks for your excellent work on this piece.  It's such a pleasure to be reading your words again.  
When government and civic leaders stop trying to Band-Aid the severed artery that is our present education system and actually begin to examine where our schools are going wrong (class size, teacher recruitment and retention, curriculum development, learning goals assessment, etc), then - and only then - will Lafayette become the educational lighthouse of the South.  The teaching talent is abundant.  The students are eager to learn.  Success is within our grasp.  Perhaps it is time to stop blaming and muzzling our teachers and begin to work with them on positive, sustainable, reliable solutions.   - Kim Wescott</description>

			<description>Mr. Erwin implies that school board members' agendas should not evolve over their tenure. This thinking ignores the facts that new possibilities arise, old problems take on new nuances, demographics fluctuate, and new constituents bring new priorities to the table. The endeavor of shaping public policy doesn't have an end point -- and Mr. Erwin, of all people, should recognize that. - Layne St. Julien</description>
