There is a concept in business called the "Peter Principle" where a person rises in position in a corporation to his level of incompetence. Jindal is evidence of the truth of this axiom. It is one thing to mouth words; it is another to put words into action. Jindal has never shown an aptitude in developing and executing effective policy courses; faced with a crisis demanding leadership, he utters the Republican mantra, "No." The nation survived Bush for 8; let's hope Louisiana can survive Jindal for 4. - notamused

The university system in this state is out of control. Cut, cut, cut. Close, close, close. THAT is the opinion of thousands of Louisiana citizens who are sick of taking care of fat salaries and fat pensions. Consolidate universities. The governor is correct. I want my money. - Myrick6

If I remember correctly our own state constitution protects certain areas of the state budget from being cut. About the only areas that can be cut are tourism and education. Do you remember Edwin Edwards shutting down state visitor centers and certain state run tourism attractions? If you look back far enough the same thing has happened over and over in the state of Louisiana - this is nothing new - the only thing new is a different Governor. We are directing anger at an individual when our own system is the problem. - twiggy

Its time to re-structure and re-orgainze higher ed. Four different university systems, four different boards supervising these systems, too many four year colleges and universities, growing out-of-control community college system, etc. Now is the perfect time to eliminate the redundancy and create an effective and efficient system. Funding is not the problem, per capita, I suspect funding is comparable to or greater than other states. Its the inefficiencies. Can't keep throwing money into a broken system and expect improvement. - justwandering
