			<description>I live near Tampa, Florida, Hillsborough and Polk Counties where the phosphate mines and fertilizer industries are the source of the fluoridation agents now most often used because the liquid form (Fluorosilicic Acid) is easier to apply to water systems.

 You can find online this report that tells about the environmental damage that prompted the government to require use of wet scrubbers to capture the fluorine gases:

			<description> The shear amount of information available from both sides of the issue is staggering. Yet, knowing what I now know about fluoridation after almost two years of research makes me generally appalled at the continuance of this practice despite all the evidence of fluoride's long term adverse health effects. And, I very much disagree with the collection of court cases that have determined that fluoridation is a proper exercise of state police powers for the good of a larger population. How do you legally justify placing a pollution by product that has been clearly identified as a neurotoxin into a resource that is so basic to human life with the expectation that it will affect everyone in the same manner? That's quite ludicrous.

   I recommend that you look carefully at the scientific data and legal arguments at www.FluorideAlert.org then read the well researched work by Christopher Bryson, &quot;The Fluoride Deception.&quot;
   I personally have not found any of the arguments based upon scientific information or legality to be either confusing nor problematic. Everything points clearly toward the fact that fluoridation in the world MUST be stopped to protect the health of our citizens. Every day you will see more and more health professionals at the Fluoride Action Network signing on to a petition to end this outdated and risky practice. These are not simply activists, but doctors, nurses, and other degreed professionals in the health field who have carefully considered scientifically researched information. One of our supporters, Dr. Arvid Carlson, is a scientist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for 2000. So, we aren't just a group of crazies shouting in the wilderness.
   Most of Europe does not fluoridate, and you will find that statistics show their dental health to be comparable, if not better, to that of America. In fact, European governments use the simple argument that fluoridation is mass medication using a non-approved drug without measured dose or prescription and without monitoring by a licensed health professional. This one argument makes the practice illegal in every state in our Union.
   In fact, the reasons for not using fluoride are so numerous, they can get a bit overwhelming at times.
   My family and I (we are from Tennessee, one of the most fluoridated states in the Union) ceased using fluoridated water and switched to distilled water in September of 2007 We also stopped using fluoride toothpaste. Prior to that we had experienced about 25 years of &quot;mysterious&quot; medical symptoms for which my doctors could find no cause. Within one week of getting off our fluoridated city tap water, all of those symptoms faded. We've been free of any kind of problems, including the usual flu virus periods ever since. I have also noted that my teeth have whitened, and they now feel much better; no cavities. So, my experience is not only from study, but also from experience. It is estimated that a small percentage of the population is particularly sensitive to very low doses of fluoride. It turns out that I may be one of them. However, a small percentage of the American population is a very large number indeed. I would prefer to stay healthy, but there is so much fluoride in our foods and environment that I find it difficult to avoid it entirely. Many water utilities in Tennessee are now reconsidering fluoridation, and some of those have discontinued the practice after researching facts that have generally been suppressed for sixty years. Representative Joey Hensley, the only licensed and practicing physician in the Tennessee State Legislature, has attempted to convince water utilities and our State Health Department to cease the practice since 2006. However, it has been difficult to communicate the scientifically proven hazards of fluoride to professionals who have been taught their entire careers that the substance is totally safe.
   You should also note that the EPA Headquarters Union representing more than 7000 scientists, lawyers, engineers and other professionals in Washington, D.C. continue to work against fluoridation. Their statement can be found at:

http://www.nteu280.org/Issues/Fluoride/NTEU280-Fluoride.htm

   Upon reading that statement, I think you will discover that not everyone working in health related government agencies are pushing fluoride so strongly.

   The real reasons why adults and children have so many cavities can be traced to poor diet, poor dental habits, and lack of access to dental health care. Fluoridation is absolutely unnecessary for the prevention of cavities.

			<description>Over 2,470 professionals urge the US Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted, citing scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html.

Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people.

November 4, 2009, 53 US cities rejected fluoridation joining a growing list of communities saying &quot;No,&quot; to fluoridation. (1)

-- The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, Canadas leading voice on environmental health issues, released a statement opposing fluoridation.

-- The National Kidney Foundation dropped its fluoridation support replacing it with this caution: ââ?¬Å?Individuals with CKD [Chronic Kidney Disease] should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure.ââ?¬Â

-- ââ?¬Å?A qualitative review of ...studies found a consistent and strong association between the exposure to fluoride and low IQ,ââ?¬Â concluded Tang el al., in &quot;Fluoride and Childrenââ?¬â?¢s Intelligence: A Meta-analysisââ?¬Â in Biological Trace Element Research

-- Scientific American editors wrote in January 2008, &quot;Some recent studies suggest that over-consumption of fluoride can raise the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland&quot;

-- A study in the Fall 2008 Journal of Public Health Dentistry reveals that  cavity-free teeth have little to do with fluoride intake. Researchers report, &quot;The benefits of fluoride are mostly topicalwhile fluorosis is clearly more dependent on fluoride intake.&quot;

-- Research published in Biological Trace Element Research (April 2009). indicates that blood fluoride levels were significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma than in control groups. Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, occurs mostly in children and young adults and has twice before been linked scientifically to fluoridation

A Tennessee State legislator, Joey Hensley, who is also an MD is urging all Tennessee Water Districts to stop fluoridation, reported a Tennessee newspaper on 11/29/08. At least 30 Tennessee water districts have already complied with his request.

Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, Dr. Arvid Carlsson, says, ââ?¬Å?Fluoridation is against all principles of modern pharmacology. It's really obsolete.ââ?¬Â

An Online Action Petition to Congress in support of the Professionals' Statement is available on FAN's web site, http://congress.fluorideaction.net
