Then why doesn't Bertrand stand up to Jindal for refusing federal funds? I didn't hear a word from him on that!! It's all political and politicians only want one thing. Get re-elected!! - northsidian

Seeing as how Lafayette missed out on the Bonanza that would have been the Louisiana Speaks process, which brought a multitude of skilled urban planners from across the nation to St. Bernard Parish, Vermilion Parish, and Lake Charles, we should be so fortunate as to contract with a planning firm that can bring the services this community needs as our planning office is understaffed and unable to provide the work we need completed. I hope these naysayer councilmen remember that when they seek to further neuter the ability of this city to plan for its future by seeking to deny $400,000.00 that would put additional heads into the planning office to get the nitty-gritty work done on the LINC plan.

Perhaps some intense outreach from this community to those councilmen will help bring at least a couple of them into the fold for realizing the vital need for these services. The failure to fund these efforts fully in the past is why Lafayette is where it is now, underperforming it's potential as an up and coming city, in spite of it's citizens' desire to see it be so.

P.S. Can we get a charter revision that allows for some at-large seats? It would be nice to see more women and a more diverse set of political viewpoints in the council. - Jason D. Faulk
