The dramatic letter written by the talented theatre student embodies the reason why special services are needed by this population. Gifted and talented students thrive on an education that is altered to their special needs (as would any other student with an exceptionality). When a student effortlessly earns a 4.0, an educator should ask if the student has actually LEARNED anything. Many gifted kids learn less than their peers because they already know it. The question shouldn't be how we can cut corners with, but how we can better use the currently allotted funds and resources to meet the needs of our state's future leaders and creators. - Emily Corie
