They are filming in Lexington, Kentucky as I write this (my dad is an extra up there). I wonder if they'll be filming some of the race scenes at Keeneland? - RobinRoo

Yes, it takes 11 months. I think that he meant 9 months after the coin toss. However, that would put the coin toss as happening in June of 1969; Secretariat was born on March 30, 1970. And if she was a 40-year old housewife and is now 87, that would've meant she took over the Meadow Stud in 1961; she didn't really become involved until the late 60s when her father was ill. I have a great book on Secretariat and was lucky enough to shake Ms. Chenery's hand at Keeneland (she was "Mrs. Tweedy" when Secretariat raced. I also still have the Kodak print I was sent from her publicity team after I girlishly wrote to them, gushing over his 1973 Belmont. One thing that will be difficult to duplicate would be Belmont's impossibly long homestretch (the track is a 1-1/2 mile oval !!!), but I guess they can alter that with special effects. - Fran Glorioso

Nine months later...I hope you know a mare carries a full term foal for 11 months. Dedication to authenticity has been incredible? And they are not filming the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park? Wonderful. - Ray2

One thing curiously not mentioned in the article. The cajun dome let 4000 people into the arena, sold soft drinks and other concessions and barricaded off all of the bathrooms in the facility. People had to actually leave the arena and drive to a convenience store to relieve themselves. After 3 hours a call was made to a member of the administraion and the bathrooms were opened. Maybe Greg Davis could respond to this matter. I did here the question asked to the KPEL morning show with no answer. Maybe the 400,000 dollars they recieved is not enough to pay to clean the bathrooms after an event. - pedro
