"This town is set to be the biggest town in Louisiana within the next two hundred years" I bet they said that in Opelousas in 1862 :)

"We have one of the fastest growing economies in the United States while the rest of the country is in a recession" I REMEMBER people said that in Lafayette in the 70's!

"if you have been in the management position of any business you would know " Nice diction.

"It is all in the numbers" A very naive and simplistic statemement. It also "all depends" on which numbers you look at, how accurately the numbers were collected, how people interpret the numbers, and what decisions people make in response to those numbers. I hope YOU aren't "in the management position of any business".

And in closing, I think that if Northidian Shotgun lived in Mandeville/Covington/Abita Springs area, he'd have more services, more opportunities, and much more "social entertainment" (nice diction again). Folsom's kinda nice, too. And I hear Hammond is really growing. St. James Parish? How about that whole Prairieville/Geismar area west of Baton Rouge?

Are you even FROM here? Because I get the impression that you haven't seen much of Louisiana outside of Lafayette.

Solutions, YA, an OXYMORON COUILLION ! I lived here when Johnston, Bertrand $ South College were all gravel, narrow, lane roads, I've listened to every Mayor, complain about the "SOFT COSTS" as you say, such as, CITY COUNCILMEN, sneakin gravel onto their Padnuhs driveways!
I am not a WHINY OXYMORON, yet i know that a GPS system purchased now will become Passe in 10 - 15 years, Tops!!! Also the FOX does not guard da chickens whilst at play . Nor do i require or rely on national publications to tell me how our Lafayette economy is faring, but my Business Management education $ International Business Consulting Firm, allows me to gauge the PROGRESS/REGRESSION OF OUR CITY WHILE THE POWERS THAT GOVERN, CONSTANTLY BELLY-ACHE $ WHINE, ABOUT LESSENING SERVICE, AND THREATING TO RAISE EXISTING RATES FOR SERVICES, ALL THE WHILE HIRING MORE $ MORE INEPT COUILLION COUZANS! BUT, I'LL SAY THE ENTERTAINMENT BY BOZO'S SUCH AS YOU MAKES FOR ENTERTAINING LAGNIAPPE ! - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

Thank you lucky. These guys don't read the national articles about Lafayette. They sit and gripe in their homes and assume that everything is going wrong in this town. What a bunch of MORONS. The fact of the matter is that Lafayette is one of two towns to grow in Louisiana this decade. We were voted one of the TOP TEN mid-sized towns in the NATION that are business friendly. We have one of the fastest growing economies in the United States while the rest of the country is in a recession. This town is set to be the biggest town in Louisiana within the next two hundred years.

Northsidian, if you have been in the management position of any business you would know that the hardest thing to control is soft costs. These are the costs that aren't normally trackable. It is all in the numbers. When people know that they are being watched, they will consume less. This directly refers to the GPS systems that you think are useless. This will be money saved and will set a precedent of resposibility. These aren't Tom Tom's. Do some research and you will see how it will save money.

Northidian Shotgun,

Go live in any other town in Lousiana, or most of the south for that matter and tell me how much you like it. I can promise you that you will complain more and have less services, oppurtunities and social entertainment. - Solutions?

The water system may have problems, like all other utilities do, but Lafayette is fortunate to have the best drinking water in the state. There are plenty of other problems to ponder. - Lucky

There are three things you can count on in your lifetime: 1. You will kick the bucket ! 2. You will pay taxes ! $ 3. You will, FIND THAT EVERY COUILLION POLITICIAN YOU ELECT IN YOUR LIFETIME WILL SPEND HIS ENTIRE TERM IN OFFICE RAISING YOUR TAXES, AND INCREASING THE COST OF EVERY SERVICE YOU DEPEND ON, AND DREAMING $ SCHEMING OF HOW TO EXTEND NEW SERVICES PROPOSED BY COUZANS, BROTHER-IN-LAWS, AND OUT OF STATE PROFITEERS ! EVERY GOVERNMENT, BE IT REPUBLICANS IN OFFICE OR DEMOCRATS, THE MORE TAXES,THE MORE, couzans on the payroll. the more Wasteful projects ,the more money they need the more they will ask for,
it will never end , never change , thats why elections are rigged $ i am not talkin about, BANANA republics, or in Afghanistan,RIGHT HERE IN LOUISIANA ! WITHOUT SCUD MISSLE SIGHTING !!! YOU GET IT, TAX PAYERS ?
I'll REMIND YOU NEXT ELECTION : PREPARE FOR A CHANGE!!!!

It's time we end consolidation and elect Andy Hebert as mayor. The city/parish government experiment has run its course and, along with a short-sighted council (save one or two exceptions), is dragging the city down with it.

As for upgrading the water system: Until the voters approve another tax increase and/or accept a LUS rate increase, it isn't going to happen. The city's almost broke, and the citizens of Lafayette either don't trust LCG to properly handle any new tax revenues (and rightfully so) or just want LCG to sprinkle some pixie dust and wave a magic wand to fix the city's ills without imposing any new taxes. - ipa

INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT SAVING AND TRACKING .HOW ABOUT UP DATING THE WATER SYSTEM .WE HAVE NEVER HEARD OF COMPLAINTS OF NEEDING TO UP GRADE THE WATER PRESSURE FROM 5PM TO 9PM WE HAVE TO USE 5 GALLONS BUCKETS TO FLUS OUR TOILETS AND IF WE HAVE A HOUSE FIRE OH WELL NOT ENOUGH WATER PRESSURE TO PUT IT OUT AND LPWDS HANDS ARE TIED WAITING THATS IS WHERE THE REAL PROBLEM IS.MORE HOUSES WENT UP IN THE RIDGE RD AREA WHICH NATURALLY NEEDS MORE WATER SUPPLY AND PRESSURE . - JACKIT

I agree with northsidian shotgun. Only the vendors of GPS devices will make money. The city will never re-coup the cost. What good will GPS do anyway. You can book-it, a good lawyer and civil service will protect the out of the folks anyway. If the city has money to p*** away on gps why don't they transfer the funds to the utility department. - northsidian

Jay,don't hang-up your STOCKING ! AY, the 20 % savings on CITY$PARISH VEHICLES fuel costs per year, means that the initial expenditure should equalize in 9 years due to fuel cost savings ! The initial cost of the GPS, should inflate by 15% after all add-ons, delays, couzanlimony, etc. Salaries for YO-YOs ta monitor the system another 5%, of the initial cost, realized mean savings, to the parish tax payers, NADA" !! - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN
