MIKHAIL, YOU ARE SO CORRECT ! TULANIAN, " PRESENTLY THE CITYS INTEREST, IS VERY WELL PROTECTED, AS IN SINGULARLY! THE PARISH INTERESTS ARE NON-EXISTENT, THE TAXES PAID BY PARISH RESIDENTS FOLLOW A ONE-WAY STREET, NO RETURN AT ALL FOR PARISH RESIDENTS.......... - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

It is my understanding that far from being a callow act by those on the fringes of the Parish, this is actually a way to prevent the fringes of the Parish from enriching themselves at the City's expense. With more people living outside of the City limits than within, the City's interests are no longer adequately protected. In my opinion, we either need full consolidation-as in no more city governments in the suburbs-or we need to scrap the system. - Tulanian

Why won't the LCG divide the parish into districts or precincts? This shrinks government while still serving residents in and outside the city limits. This also prevents taxes from going across town, and lets different districts set rates for sales and property tax.

Wouldn't competition benefit business and residents? If you want a road in your district repaired, or if you want a park built you could go to your precinct (which in theory is smaller) instead of the city and/or parish. Could this even work? Would making the residents and leaders of each district more accountable be better for that particular district? - Jason K

Marthe Reed "this action seems a callow act, the affluent who have fled to the edges of the suburban sprawl of Lafayette"

Huh? Last time I checked River Ranch, the Settlement, Green Briar, Fernwood, etc. were still in the City. - Mikhail Kalashnikov

People move where they want to move and live with and by people they want to live by. Makes sense they would want to choose how their dollars are being spent also. Can't blame them (us). Freedom of choice is blessed. That is essentially a major underpinning of the American Way. - 337Advocate

Perhaps I mistake the intent, but this action seems a callow act, the affluent who have fled to the edges of the suburban sprawl of Lafayette wishing to deflect their fiscal contributions from the full community, focusing only on their own immediate concerns. - Marthe Reed
