I only eat crawfish at restaurants that still boil them Cajun-style (with seasoned water). You can keep all those fake crawfish restaurants that serve the crawfish with the seasoning sprinkled on top, that's for New Orleans sissy's - The Ville

Shannon, you should try Off the Hook seafood market & deli. I lived in or around the New Orleans the first 26 years of my life and it should be very close to what you were used to in New Orleans. Poboys are even served on real New Orleans french bread. - JL

No way in the world I'm gonna tell you where they're the best. Its already too crowded, I gotta wait as it is. Find your own, or do what anyone with a brain would do, eat crawfish at lots of places. - Holeinthedonut8

The very best boiled crawfish in Baton Rouge is at Montalbano's Seafood Deli on Florida Blvd. Not only is the crawfish AMAZING but all the food is. I'm originally from New Orleans and nothing I've had in Baton Rouge can compare to this little "Mom and Pop" deli. The people are so nice but the food...oy vey delicious!!! - Shannon

presently 3/12/10, the boiling is serving terrible overcooked rubbery crawfish, and if ya call and ask how the crabs are
size-wise. Hah they'll tell ya large, when you get their, 30 minutes later they only have the small/sm. medium, " SOLD OUT OF THE BIGGGG, LARGE BLUE POINTS..............the fried fish is very good but the best fried catfish is at TEXAS ROADHOUSE... - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

Well, you hit a couple of nails on the head in this article, but perhaps none bigger than Pat Huval being at least part of the attraction at Pat's Fisherman's Wharf. I've added a couple of places to my to-do list as well - first up will be Chez Francois for tails and fat. I recall my momma sending me to Penny Saver on the north...er, in Upper Laf...no, on the northside to get crawfish tails, and as I was leaving the house, hearing her call "don't forget the fat!" I didn't think anyone did that anymore, but I'm about to get me some.

An interesting side bar (for a certified dipper such as myself) would have been a rating of the ever present crawfish dips. As we know, some places have you make your own, and some provide a house mix. In the make your own department, some places give us the essentials (mayo, ketchup, cajun power), and some everything but the kitchen sink (I'm thinking Crawfish Town here). In the "house" section, Paul's Pirogue's Cajun Mayonnaise stands out, but LT's (newly opened in Broussard) unnamed specialty is worth it as well.

On that note, though I am a huge fan of the taste and ease-of-peel of places that use the boil and soak method you exposed (like Cajun Claws, one of my favorites), those tails are a little wet from the soak, which really messes with dip adhesion. Maybe that could be a new diet trend.

Looking forward to your po-boy cover story (hint, hint) - surely there are some out of the way jewels you can unearth with your investigative skills. - Dave in Broussard

Had some crawfish at the Jefferson Street Pub on Thursday. One of the best new secrets in town. I have been a huge fan of Crawdaddy's On Site Catering for years, as they boil for our annual company catered event. I am so happy that they have partnered up with such a great establishment as the JSP. The best crawfish and boiled shrimp in Lafayette are now downtown, I will be a regular. - Robert G

Enjoyed this one. I'm looking forward to trying some of these places. Gator Cove is a favorite of our family for boiled seafood. The seafood stuffed peppers are wonderful and the crab cake is to die for! (Leave room for the outstanding desserts!) - Morrow
