NP Moss had had six principals in the past ten years. Couple that with the perception among many on the School Board, in the administration and in the community that Moss is a hopeless cause and we have a recipe for its current state. Evangeline and St. Landry Parishes are each home to high-poverty, high-performing schools. There are thirty-three other examples of high-poverty, high-performing schools in Louisiana. It can be done. There is no reason that the north side of Lafayette Parish can not have a successful middle school. We need it for the good of all of Lafayette. Otherwise we will condemm a significant portion of our community to failure. We can not afford to do that.

Thanks to the School Board for reaching a practical decision last night. Now the career and technical high school can be considered along with all the other facility needs of the parish rather than being carved out of the process. - Huh?

In a misguided attempt to save Moss, some people got emotional about their community losing something and fought to save a failing school instead of accepting a new school that would enhance any area of town. They meant well but Moss is not be what they think it is and never will be. It represents a community failure as much as the school failure. Keeping Moss as a middle school is not a victory. Making it work as an educational institution would be victory...I'm betting on history = Moss fails.

As for dodging the issue, kudos to the LPSB for completely wimping out. Shame on you all.
