I thought this a few times, hoping it would happen, and glad to see that my intuition was on track. Now, if only the property managers could consider some new urbanist development ideas and get rid of those two unused restaurant pads, and finally fix the mess left by the city ten years ago when all the trees along Congress were torn out for a turn lane. I'm convinced small actions such as that have big consequences; that "shopping center" has definitely been less inviting to visit since then. Now that two large student apartment housing blocks have gone up, the need for interconnection and further mixing of service uses nearby has increased. What is needed now is enhanced nodal action at this half-corner of Congress and Bertrand/N.College. More bicycle tracks are needed in this area, and perhaps a rehabilitation of the N.College/Bertrand bicycle track on the east side, with bicycle activated stop/cross lights, bike connections from Drug Emporium across the Crossings/House apartments to this Rouse's anchored district, along with use of Theater Drive to access Bayou Shadows and the SLCC area are musts. We can do this Lafayette, and it won't take any discomfort to make it happen. - Jason D.
