Unfortunately, if said problem does not garner empathy with parish council folks ( how to dispose of pig manure, say)your council person will probably not be able to help you. If you labor under the theory that things like art funding enhances the quality off life and therefore enhances the attractiveness of the city which in turns brings money into the community,well,I don't think your councilman has even a slight chance of helping you.Because even though he is your representitive, he operates in an inherently flawed system (City/Parish Consolidated Government)in which he has no ability to manuver i.e. there is no real means for you to be represented.Early Americans encountered this.They called it TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION and really, they got worked up into a snit about the thing. At least Jay Castille wants to study the situation for a while (2016, to be exact).And you know, that's nice and all, but given his limited capabilities, I don't think that he will ever arrive at the realization that under any other circumstances, this would be considered taking away the public's essential right to vote.Folks, we have a right to vote,damn the consequences, unintended or otherwise.Put it to a vote. I don't mean to be unkind, but what's the point of a commission when their is not enough collective gray matter to add two and two.Our fate as a community is in the hands of a bunch of unqualified boobs who would have voted against the Rural Electrification Act because it might upset the chickens.C'mon on people, Lafayette's fate and future as a world class city cannot be left up to lot of "rural sensibility". The Parish of Lafayette, should have a leader in the form of a Parish Commissioner, the number of parish councilmen from each outlying municipality to be determined by the number of the municipality's voter population , a parish law enforcement administrator, a parish clerk, a parish animal control officer, etc...... I guarantee you with the City monitoring, and administering city business .......... The Parish monitoring, and administering parish business........... Ay , and never the twain shall meet, like separating Church and State, you could count on this, "you would never see one, "Deviling into the affairs of the other, ( Yes, thats a word ! )also very fitting in our current administration, and this would certainly eliminate the sticky hands disease which is a common ailment with our politicians...,. We need a commision to decide the fate of the city of lafayette? How about just putting it to a public vote? Whats so hard to understand about this situation? I understand its all about the towns losing their voice in the city of lafayette matters. The problem is, we don't WANT their input, or drain of monies anymore. We, the citizens of lafayette are tired of funding the towns projects, tired of the towns having a say-so in lafayette matters while not having a vote in their matters. I don't fault the towns mayors. They are looking out for their towns. I DO fault the previous and present city presidents for not looking out for their own city. Get rid of the whole bunch, starting with Castille.
