OKAY !!! SO we don't have any local Intelligent Peeps, so we hire firms from BR, Shreveport, Timbuctoo, anywhere but local.... Lafayette City brings to mind the "Ole Company Sto, everyone picking cotton for the bossman, and 1000 ads for Wait Staff AT THE LOCAL EATERYS.
This city is the Fastfood capital of Louisiana, and the upscale restaurants, well every Chefs Signature Dish, has a taste like Ragu or Kitchen Bouquet.

Most local people travel to Abbeville for oysters, and BR for RIBS, and do so only because they want to be able to say that their distinguished gourmand palates can rate ones oysters/or ones ribs better at this or that restaurant.
Then these same people ask for a bottle of Catsup for their oysters, and extra Barbeque sauce on their ribs, and cold beer to dilute the flavors........

shoplocal--

that's a really nice idea. real nice sentiment. how serious are you about that? would you, for example, demand that your city-parish government spend money locally on local talent to do all the things it currently outsources to companies all over the country?

Would you refuse to vote for a mayor or city councilman that unless he signed a pledge to seek out local talent before hiring out of town?

I wish you had come up with this idea a few years back before the current administration and council were elected. - ragin_cajun

This is another reason why is it so important that Lafayette residents SHOP LOCAL and support our local economy. LOCALLY OWNED grocers, clothiers and restaurants need your support. Not only does it allow our community to thrive, but it also means more funding for the local government since small businesses are not typically granted the same tax breaks as large national chains. Not to mention, any revenue gained by local business owners is also spent IN LAFAYETTE rather than sent off to a corporate office in another state. MONEY SPENT LOCAL STAYS LOCAL. - shoplocal
