Rally for Economic Supremacy. And I resent Angelle's comment about Cajuns "hanging from the rafters". The word "survival" seems inappropriate when you're outside looking at hundreds of high-end 2010 SUV's and trucks. I guess the secret of Fock Snooze's success is its drama queen response to being told "no" once in a decade. When an accident occurs, doesn't someone test for drug use? A test for greed/gratification may be in order. - Cajun

11,000 attendees?
Typical liberal response! There were over 120,000 people in attendence! If Fox News would have covered the event the truth would have been told... - Limbaugh Lover

I agree with td, what solutions has Salazar come up with. He has had three months. Obama almost a year, and Government for ever. Votes and contributions is what it's all about, they are the trolls under the bridge asking for money for passage. - Melvin Barrilleaux

Former oilfield worker wrote--
"I think someone has been spending too much time breathing the fumes from the gulf."

Yeah, and I think that someone is YOU!

Oil company profits are not excessive. Oil Industry profit margins on average are 8%. There are many more profitable industries than that--telecom, pharma, food, beverages, consumer services, banking. Exxon profit margin is 11%, Microsoft's is 31%, Coca-Cola's is 21%. So now we compare the level of regulation the company experiences to the profit margin it achieves....hmmmm....oh yeah, and lemme leave you a little reference so you won't think I'm just making it up.... http://www.gravmag.com/profits.shtml

This took me 10 minutes to look up and write down for you. It goes like this--a position, a reasoned argument, and a reference to supporting material. You should try that yourself. It works alot better than your approach--insult, sensational pseudo-fact, opinion, another insult.

uneducated is not a fault,it is temporary until one gets educated. Ignorants is inherited buy refusing to seek the truth or education. It should be obvious where the uneducated and ignorant are speaking from. Do we need to shut in all the wells to educate the ignorant. We may as well, what is there to loose for us. We won't be able to pay our bills anyway. - Melvin Barrilleaux

Can't blame an oil town for feeling strongly about the moratorium which will affect jobs, although I don't believe it will be as bad as the doomsday prophets suggest. And of course the Fox Newsers and Rush-bots will take this opportunity to bash Obama because their ingrained narrative tells them that everything Obama does is destroying the world.

But how easily some forget that this is BP's baby. And what about the jobs that have already been lost in fisheries and tourism? Have they been forgotten already? BP is just loving all this attention on the President. Folks have a point when they bring up the irresponsibility of oil companies operating in the Gulf and the megatons of money they've made here while investing very little (relative to profits) in terms of safety and prevention. It's one thing to have papers and safety meetings and agency certifications; it's another thing to actually do things right in this high risk environment and have adequate measures to contain a major blowout. Obviously they didn't, and this is the oil company's(ies') fault.

People love their knee-jerk reactions and flinging the most convenient attack at their least favorite group of people. The Rally was pretty much about that, whipping people up into a partisan frenzy. It's much harder to suspend bias, sift through the garbage for kernels of truth, and draw a reasonable conclusion that actually gets at the root. - Resident

"former oilfield worker" left wing cool-aid drinker thinks that Haliburton is ALL oil companies since he said they all moved over their and so should we. He or she hates Halliburton because Cheney was once an exec there...no other good reason. Probably doesn' know w he/she is even supossed to hate them. I bet he/she drives a gas guzzeler too. So former oilfield worker, What do you suggest for energy, and the economy while the windmills turn and mothers of invention seek better alternatives? Do you walk to work< grow your own? ...probably the latter. You have lost touch. - Woody

Wow, I was there, I am a registered Democrat but vote how I feel and rally for what I believe in. It was a RALLY to lift the moratorium hence the Pro Oil crowd. Good Lord...you are can talk your talk but this will have a trickle down affect and maybe your job will be lost then you can cry to Obama! As far as the racist remark...there were black people there that chose to be there so what is that all about? Oh and the Cajundome didn't host the event, it was rented like for any other venue! Get the facts straight people. - BBB

There were black people there. In fact, I know a lot of black people who work in the oilfield, who would be hurt by this moratorium. I went to the rally. I saw license plates from as far away as Florida. However the rally was organized, the people attending were sincere. - Phil

I have a suggestion to all of you folks who can't evolve.
Move to Abu Dhabi like the rest of the Oil Companies.
Because honestly, we'd rather have our gulf clean and pristine than have your oily trash here.

This industry is like crack and this state needs an intervention. - Former oilfield worker

To DRC and K:
I don't think Wednesday's rally rises to the level of nefarious plot or astroturf. The event was earnestly and transparently conservative and pro-oil. The Louisiana Oil and Gas Association didn't, as best I can tell, try to hide its sponsorship of the event. It was partisan, nakedly so, and my account conveys that. - Walter Pierce

Dumbest statement ever: "Unless you've worked offshore, you have no idea how much time and money is spent by oil companies, drillers, and service companies on worker safety and environmental regulation. It's way out of control."

Yea, oil companies made the larges profits of any industry ever in the history of the world last year. Clearly they are spending too much money and time on safety.

I think someone has been spending too much time breathing the fumes from the gulf.

Come on Ind. Don't you think it's relevant that Gifford Briggs, the organizer, is a registered lobbyist?

I bet if you did some digging, you could find some other interesting factoids.

Just a tip: be journalists! - K

td, you sound like its all about " green ".
This is what is wrong with this world, the GREEN INBRED DO GOODERS, who have never stepped foot on a drilling rig, and who have not the first clue of just what it takes to bring (1) Bbl. of oil out of the earth, and the billions of dollars spent by the operators , the drilling companys, on "SAFETY EQUIPMENT, and the enormous cost to the SERVICE COMPANYS for their specially trained service personnel, who have to be certified by 3 and 4 safety agencies,at a great cost to their employers, in order to be qualified to bring the oil Bbl's out of the ground, refine the oil, and process the oil, so you can drive your fat-ass to the Pizza Palace to feed your grungy big fat green, BUBBLE LAZY ASS ! - HARD HAT- THATS RIGHT !
