I absolutely DO NOT BELIEVE MOST ABORTIONS ARE ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL, but I do believe that if affordable birth control were available, less abortions would occur. I do not believe most women who seek abortions, do so lightly, or often. The few that I've kown did so in an effort to save their own lives. They did it very early and have regretted there was no other solution. Education and knowing your own body are very important, in this issue and many other health issues. Mandating by law, medical procedures is stupid and wrong. - BoFred

I agree that this law is just invasive, demeaning, and overbearing. If I were a woman, I'd be insulted. But let's not kid ourselves about this--MOST abortions are about birth control. According to these numbers, for example, less than 10% are for child/mother health. More than 3/4 are lifestyle choices.

If we truly want government "out of our lives", then we need to accept that to have freedom, we will have abortions, gay marriage, and very few drug laws. By the same token, if we want to have all these social freedoms condoned by government, then we can't all go run to the government for special treatment and tax dollars, or file suit in court for every "cause" under the sun. - ragin_cajun

it's a good idea--you want an abortion, you have to look at the ultrasound of the baby and THEN decide. The problem is that the second the government gets into it, and then makes a law, it becomes a bungled effort and it just gets ridiculous.

So now, nobody's happy but the people who make money off of ultra-sounds. They need to either outlaw it, or stay out of it. But half-ass regulation like this is just rubbing salt in wounds. - ragin_cajun

Its stupid and invasive to require an ultrasound and in the end won't stop many procedures. Education will stop more and birth control would stop even more. I don't think free or reasonably priced birth control is available anymore. I still trust women and their doctors to know what is best. I don't believe a lot of pregnancies are terminated as a form or birth control. - BoFred
