Mayor Holden is a class act. If he says they needed the room then that's what he meant. Besides, why should the Advocate have free office space in a city building? Surely if another business was using city facilities rent free and for profit, the Advocate would report such a scandal. - Watcher

I am Ms. May’s attorney. I am responding to address obvious misinformation that is being circulated.

For the record, she is accused of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She did not commit any violation of any traffic law; she voluntarily drove into a police checkpoint. She did not have anyone in the vehicle at the time and was arrested after she refused to submit to a breath test. It is a rare occurrence for a person not to be arrested after refusing to submit to a breath test. Like all of us, she has rights afforded under our State and Federal Constitutions. - Barry Sallinger

I take exception Rinkle. I believe maybe the publisher's arrest for DUI might be noteworthy, esp if children were in the vehicle. I believe there might be merit in knowing something. I believe there might be a "higher standard" the public could expect from a news reporting publication just as we expect from political figures and public servants. There is nothing wrong in admitting human frailty & attempting to be better. Maybe its better to have it out in the open & do something about it than to try to hide it. The first step in solving a problem is admitting there is a problem. - BoFred

Wondering,

Why don't you just ask the paper why they do their job. It is the moral resposibility of any news organisation to expose corruption and reward the virtuous. My question for you is which one of your buddies got caught?

Furthermore, the publisher of this paper is a nobody. If the end reported on the legal troubles of every ordinary citizen in Lafayette their wouldn't be any room for news. Also, how does an OWI affect the integrity of this periodical? - Rinkelstein

Why is your paper so quick to point the finger at people doing wrong in the area - and so silent when one of your own does wrong? Just last week - your publisher was arrested on suspicion of DUI with her daughter and another child in the car... Why so quick to point the finger at others - and so slow to take responsibility for your own actions? - Wondering
