Downtown Lafayette-

" They are all not awarded points, if fact almost none of them are. "

So that brings back the second question of my original post--"Other clubs in the parish have had violent crimes and not had points assessed? "

Is it because Karma is downtown, close to the "arts district", and the city has a different standard for those bars? Is it because the Office of Alcohol and Noise Control is just too lazy to get in a car and visit ALL the BARS in Lafayette City-Parish? Is it because they just don't like Karma? Is it a race thing like Cloutier suggested?

Is the Office of Alcohol and Noise Control just an arm of the police department? Or is it independent of the police department? Someone commented that Chief Craft has it in for the hip-hop clubs, and his public statements do bear that out. - ragin_cajun

Because the ordinance is unconstitutional at best. These same incidents that happened at Karma happen at many establishments every week. They are all not awarded points, if fact almost none of them are. The court system will strike this down and the City administration knows it. - Downtown Lafayette

Downtown Lafayette --

"Karma stays open. Will stay open as long as it so chooses."

Why is that? Seems like the council has all the reason in the world to revoke their liquor license for 2 years. Why didn't they?

Just the fact that they debated the issue for 2 1/2 hours tells me the council can't, or won't, don't anything. Why?

" the council backed off the revocation vote after Councilman Purvis Morrison questioned what would become of the building if the bar were shut down for two years."

I'm saying that has no bearing at all on whether they revoke their license. There's no homework to be done. - ragin_cajun

Dummy they are referring to the revocation. Not sure if it applies to building. I am sure the would not revoke just because the building exists. Stupid azz u make me lol. Do your homework before u try to go off. - One

2 1/2 hours discussion on this? This seems pretty cut and dry to me. Either the council can enforce it's ordinances, or it can't. What's the discussion about?

Other clubs in the parish have had violent crimes and not had points assessed? Why not? Is the "Office of Alcohol and Noise Control" doing its job? Doesn't sound like it. Cut off its budget and save the money, then. There's a finite amount of it out there.

What would become of the building? Who gives a s*^t? We don't decide whether or not to enforce the law based on the location of the building, do we?

Let's see. I don't want to pay city taxes this year. And LCG can't make me pay, because who will cut my grass if the sherriff takes my house? It's the same thing.

This is just not that hard. - ragin_cajun
