•The SPLC took on a case, on behalf of a mother, or so it seemed, whose son was murdered by Klansmen. The SPLC won the case. The victim's mother was awarded property belonging to perpetrators which was valued at $51,875. The SPLC sent out letters to donors containing a picture of the murdered youth as a means of fundraising, and collected $9,000,000 in total. To cut a long story short, the centre walked away from the case with over 173 times more money from the case than the victim's mother did, and the SPLC didn’t offer her a penny of their mammoth total.

•The SPLC claim to be a "non-profit organisation", yet the collective assets of the Center by October, 2008, amounted to over $170,000,000. This is higher than the individual GDPs of six real-life countries, and higher than the bottom three combined. Source: Article King of the Hate Business by Alexander Cockburn
•In 2008, staff of the Southern Poverty Law Center were payed the following amounts: Morris Dees ("chief trial consel"): $273,132, Richard Cohen (CEO and President): $290,133. For comparison, the Director of the Institute of Southern Studies (a prisoner's rights group) makes $50,000 a year, and the president and senior counsil of the group, Stephen Bright, only $11,000. In fact, Stephen Bright, wrote in a letter to Morris Dees, "you are a fraud and a conman. You spend so much, achieve so little, and promote yourself shamelessly".

I don't see these people in the article

Whenever and wherever hate and contempt is expressed about minorities you can be sure that Franklin Graham and his father, sister Sarah, Reed, Limbaugh, Oreilly, Hannity, reverend Beck, Mcconnel, Boehner, Brewer, and the rest of these clowns are present.

Franklin Graham and his father, sister Sarah, Reed and the like, are simply a bunch of bogus, fraudlent liars and con-men/women.
------------------------------

I don't see these people in the article. Nevertheless, the branding of the Family Research Council by the SPLC is little more than McCarthyism. Used for fund raising purposes and little more, of course, the Family Research Council does the same. Personally, I would be glad to see both organizations become footnotes. - WhataLeak

They are more than liars. Look at what is happenning in Arzonia. People who need transplants are being sentenced to death because the governor (a republican girl)has deemed it cost prohibitive for medicad to cover them.

These are the same people that called Obama's health reform a death panel.

In Alaska, when Palin was governor, she passed a law that rape victims had to pay for the rape kit exam.

This is NUTS.

So you have cornered the market on absolute truth? Your epistemology must limitless.

It does not take special knowledge to sniff out a phony fraud. With these kind of people, you simply have to look at what they say and then compare that to what they actually do.

It must be just total misery to be black, or gay, or a woman, in America. Why would anyone want to endure it?

I'm sure it was terrible to be black, gay, jewish over the centuries. I think though that in this new century, some of us whites are as afraid of the future as those minority groups were in the past. Unjustifiably though it is, this is the driving force that some of us hope will unite us.

So stop the hate, ragin. It starts with you. As someone said earlier, you will soon be alone, just you and your hate.

Maybe now that the president is willing to give the rich people billions of our tax dollars the hate fill racist will cease and desist with the bigotry. Whats strange about these bigots is that they are more than willing to campaign against their own economic interest and choose hate.

There is a pathology here with you people who hate so much.
There is one saving grace and that is that you can no longer pass on your hate to your offspring. Your offspring goes to school, church, college, concerts and are neighbors with the people whom you hate so much. They understand, know and love the very people that you call ugly names.

In that sense, you haters are naked and exposed.
Soon, you'll be all alone. Just you and your hate. - Docy B

The hate rhetoric that comes out of the mouths of people like Perkins, Ralph Reed, Limbaugh, and politocs like John Mccain is setting our country back.

Take Mccain, for example; here is a man that fashions himself as a maveric, a man who wears his pride of country on his sleeve. This man has been a hater all of his life. He held back King's birthday in Az. Then after he lost that battle, he goes and adopt a black child so he can say, "see, I'm not antiblack.

Now his latest hate move is to stop people from serving in the military just because of who they decide to love, a military that he claims to love so much. He love the military so much that in order to keep the flame of hate burning, he is denying its budget.

The same could be said about most republicans.

China reporting today that they are investing 1.5 trillion in alternative energy, and new tecnologies-The United States is reporting today that its investing all its resources on HATE.

Go figure! - LAFAYETTE NATIVE RESIDING IN CA

One organization says another is a hate group? Or is it just a difference of opinion and not hate? What is hate?

Listen here dim wit. Hate is not a matter of a difference of opinion. Hate is calling Obama hitler. Hate is calling Obama the N word. Hate is calling Obama a Kenyan monkey. Hate is calling Obama a foriegn born illegimate president. Hate is calling homosexuals child molesters. Hate is calling hispanics killers and drug dealers.

Hate and fear mongering is not a matter of opinion. - slipslide

Jeremy Alford --

Short, inflammatory, and not so informative. Why even bother posting it? Just stirring the pot up a bit? Would it have been too much trouble for you, a working journalist and professional political commentator, to post a few examples of falsehoods and name-calling by the Family Research Council? Why just take the SPLC's word for it?

Typing up a quote from a spokesman at each organization is not journalism -- it's gossip. Inform us. Tell us what has incensed the SPLC. Give us some quotes and let US make up our minds about whether FRC's language was homophobic or racist. - ragin_cajun

Maybe it is just dislike?

Is a different opinion or world view, hate?

Are people who hate brussel sprouts members of a hate group? If you are, stay clear of Southern Poverty Law Center. Or at least keep your opinon on brussel sprouts to yourself.

Alright, lets roll out the bigots, and haters. All of those Obama race haters, please step to the front of the line. We'll let you lead the parade of race hating bigots.

Next in line, the homophobes, and godless preachers who preach hate and division from the pulpit.

Next in line, the fox fake news models. Hannity, Ingram, Oreilly, Greta, Ailes, Beck, Morris, and the rest of the girls.

Finally, in line is the radio bigots. Limbaugh, Bennett, Levin, Wilkow, and the rest of those idiots.

Now that we're lined up, we will march single file down to the civil war celebration ending with the swearing in of Jefferson Davis.

Remember now, the civil war was not about slavery. - SENSIBLE POLITICS

Ah, the politics of hate. Nothing unites the white racist as hate. They are always looking for someone to hate. Limbaugh, Oreilly, Hannity, Haily Barbour, Demint, sister Sarah, Tony Perkins, Jerry Fallwell, Pat Robinson, Jan Brewer, Rick Perry, and now Dee Stanley.

Keep the fire of hate burning guys. See you at the Jefferson Davis civil war celebration. Oh, don't forget to bring your noose. Never can tell there might be a midnight party.

Remember, the civil war had nothing to do with SLAVERY. - slipslide

"“The Southern Poverty Law Center is a massively funded liberal organization that operates under a veneer of public justice when, in fact, they seem more interested in fundraising ploys..."

In 1994, SPLC founder Morris Dees vowed that he would stop soliciting donations when the SPLC’s Endowment Fund reached $100 million dollars. It reached that mark in 2002, yet the fund-raising letters continued to go out like clockwork.

By 2007, the Endowment Fund had reached $200 million, and still the fund-raising letters went out.

Last year the Endowment Fund generated $39 million dollars in interest, or more than $15 million dollars in excess of the SPLC’s total annual expenses, (minus the $5.3 million they spent on fund-raising), and yet the fund-raising letters, like this one from this past September, http://wp.me/pCLYZ-6Y, keep coming.

Maybe Mr. Perkins has a point?

The most ironic (read: “hypocritical”) thing about the Southern Poverty Law Center is that NOT ONE of its top ten, highest paid executives is a minority.

http://wp.me/pCLYZ-67

In fact, according to the SPLC’s hometown newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, despite being located LITERALLY in the back yard of Dr. Martin Luther King’s home church, the SPLC has NEVER hired a person of color to a highly paid position of power.
